Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a systematic style of massage that is used as an adjuct in the recovery or management of many different musculoskeletal problems. These problems may include things such as low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, tennis elbow, as well as many more. It involves systematic assessment and treatment of muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues to help with rehabilitation and return to normal function.

A remedial massage therapist has a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and has generally undertaken a minimum of a 1 year Diploma. They are registered and insured under governing bodies, and are required to continue to increase their knowledge and practice through professional development seminars and courses to stay registered.

A standard appointment with a Remedial Massage therapist may include a thorough history and examination before treatment proceeds to get a baseline as to health and function. Many different techniques may be used, and you may also be given some take-home stretches or exercises. It is common for Remedial Massage to be used in conjunction with other therapies, such as Osteopathy or Exercise Physiology, with the aim of reducing pain and discomfort enough to allow you to do external rehabilitation, or to get back to doing some of your normal activities.
